Genre research Midway 2019
The movie "Midway" (2019) is about a famous battle in WWII that change the tide of war in 1942, with the U.S destroying the main Japanese carrier fleet effectively changing the course of the war. This movie shows fantastic visuals and effects.
Some of the camera angles used were the aerial shot to unveil the armada of ships below, Low/High camera angles to show the scene from different views like low for showing destruction and high to show dominance, point of view to represent what the actor sees in the movement, eye level shots to reveal facial expressions, long shots to show the character and what he is up against, and wide shots to get the whole picture. Some camera movements are tracking/panning to follow the action and slowing revealing something in the scene and, zoom to get a close up of the action. The costumes were generally used from the time period to have the feeling of being in the 1940s. The makeup felt as if we were in WW2 and the props were up to date.
This movie and outstanding sounds and music and some of the ones used are the amazing ambient sound of gunfire and explosions to get viewers immersed, dialogue to give the audience insight of information unknown, and the soundtrack that amplifies the scene going on. The editing techniques used are jump cuts to show the facial expressions of multiple different people, cutaways to show the audience another part of the story, and action match to the fight scene bit by bit.
Personally, I loved the movie from the plot, characters, and the detail it was amazing, and I should see it again the music and ambient sound gave this film so much more that what most people think and the point of view shots showing what the actor was seeing made it immersive and I would use it. However, some things I did not enjoy were the action matches with it matching to much like a marvel movie and didn't have a buildup to add suspense. Also, the low/high angles were unnecessary, and I would not use them.
