Genre research blog-horror

Horror movies all have their own sort of style, but they all have their similarities. A high angle is most often to show the victim as powerless and weak. Close up shot are commonly used to show the monster or the subject's facial expression and how horrified they were seeing the monster, on the other side of the spectral long shots are used to expose the killer down a hallway or street. Dutch angles are used to create a feel of uneasy and pair with music could make a scary scene. The lighting is usually always dark quiet location that is abandoned like a hospital. Props are weapons, blood and other props according to the location of the movie. The clothing would depend on location, but it usually be torn have blood on it or the clothing being dirty. They edit jump cuts to add suspense or scare the viewer, and also cut away to hide the terror of what happens, an example would be something happens to a subject then its cutaway. The sound is use it unique because horror movies mostly use sound and music to scare the viewer, the music is suspense to create a sense of fear. Ambient sounds give off unsettling vibes like owls in the trees, footsteps, or someone died offscreen. Other common sounds are breathing of the victim and the screams of the dammed. Examples of horror movies are "A quiet place 1 and 2" and the Halloween series. Also, movies like "it" and "one miss call" are perfect examples. I think the most important aspect of a horror movies is the music mixed with the ambient sound that really makes it scary. I would this combo in my film to create a feeling suspense and fear. Other movies will have it be quiet then loud for a jump scare to surprise, which works well when you pair wit with the combo. The close up and long shots will be the most used in my film because it will help reveal the villain and express the victim with jump cuts. Some aspect I would not use are some props like blood or weapons. My monster would not have a weapon and fake blood would be hard to come by. Other things that don't appeal to me are the sudden loud noises due to the fact that its worn out by now.
