My partner and I decided to choose the song “Break my Stride” by Matthew Wilder as our song choice. Usually in music videos with a similar genre to my song, they all show people moving about doing things such as: dancing, jumping, and singing.

  • Music is used in other music videos to demonstrate the audio for the viewer. In this case it is an upbeat sound.

  • There is not exactly a dress code in the music video but most people are wearing clothes from the 80s.  

Genre of the music we chose

  • The genre of the music that our song is part of is pop music

  • This genre of music is known for having a good rhythm, a melody that is catchy, as well as the songs are usually easy to remember and easy to sing along to.

  • Our song is in the pop music genre because the rhythm and waves of sound that the song is  

  • This affects the viewer by allowing them to quickly catch onto a song that gets their interests.

The song itself

  • The songs meaning is a relationship between two people and one of them feels that the relationship is hurting them.

  • It is to represent  a time in the artist's life where they were not doing their best and were able to turn it around

  • The song is also meant to get the reader to see if there is anything that they can go and change in their life and to go and do it. 

The type of editing that is used for music videos with this song is 

  • Jump cuts are used to jump between people in the front and people in the back 

  • Shot reverse shots are used for jumping between different people in the video such as a drummer and the person singing

The music videos also used a lot of similar shots 

  • They used tracking shots to follow people as they were dancing 

  • They used close up shots to show the actors face while they were singing 

  • A wide shot is used to show everyone in the room dancing and singing 

Conventions and Codes 

  • At the end of the video they credit the actors and audio for everyone who was in the video 

  • The camera is usually focused on between one to three people in the video 

  • They are very energetic and are actively moving about to get the viewers attention

The Use of Rhetorical Devices

  • In some videos pathos is used in a positive way to get the viewer to associate the song with a happy meaning  

  • They use logos to pair the meaning of the lyrics with something that is going on in the music video  

  • They use ethos by famous people that can influence some to show up in the videos

  Research Our group will be doing a Nike commercial. Typically these commercials follow multiple people ranging from average joes to famous athletes partaking in some physical activity. The costumes they wear are Nike branded apparel whether it be shorts, windbreakers, tennis shoes, sports bras, or headbands. Many of the props used were sporting equipment, specifically basketballs, footballs, soccer balls, towels, water bottles, or gloves.  Almost always the actors are fit and drenched in sweat or more accurately spritzed with water right before the shot was taken. Final decision-Action

 I chose the action genre for my opening scene film. Action movies have always peaked my interests with the plot the scene and how they are crafted just make it so perfect. This option is the easiest this action movies have more of my style. Action movie more, so war movies have always grabbed my attention because I love to study history and wars. The atmosphere of the movies just checks all the boxes for me and now that I can create and opening scene to one, I'm all hands on. I already have a great idea of what my opening on my action movie will be. Some of the ones that inspired me were "Hacksaw Ridge" and "Midway" which I loved and learned about. I know how war movies are portrayed, as gritty harsh warzones with empty atmospheres. This experience will help me make a better opening that is more enjoyable to make.  Action was my chose over the other two because I could get much more creative than I could if I was doing horror or drama.
